Founded in 1981 by E. A. Smallhorn, SEA Engineering Co. Inc. has been a leading engineering firm for over 40 years. Originally focused on ocean engineering, the company now also works in Subsea Equipment Design, Underwater Breathing Apparatus Design, Thermal Manikin Design, and Water Purification Systems Design.

We tackle unique challenges in each field. Design equipment to handle deep-sea pressures, create safe and comfortable underwater breathing gear, and develop manikin to study how people react to different temperatures.

Subsea Equipment Design

Subsea Equipment Design: Crafting Solutions for Extreme Depths

Subsea Equipment Design handles some of the most challenging conditions, like high pressure, salty water, and extreme temperatures. Making equipment for these conditions requires advanced engineering and durable materials.

At Sea Engineering, we focus on creating reliable Subsea Equipment that can endure these harsh environments. We excel in crafting solutions that perform effectively under the ocean’s extreme conditions.

We have a lot of experience with Subsea Equipment Design. We work on everything from parts for saturation diving systems to military underwater breathing gear. We also make special testing tools, like breathing simulators for checking breathing devices, and thermal manikins for testing clothing. Each design is carefully made to work well and meet high safety standards.

Underwater Breathing Apparatus Design: Ensuring Safety and Comfort

For anyone working underwater, dependable breathing equipment is essential for safety and comfort. Making these devices means ensuring they are safe and comfortable, while also handling the special challenges of being underwater.

SEA Engineering is known for creating important underwater breathing apparatus design used in various types of diving, from commercial and military to scientific and recreational. They combine advanced technology with a good understanding of how the human body works to make sure their equipment is safe and effective in tough underwater conditions.

One impressive innovation is the CUMA (Canadian Underwater Mine-Countermeasures Apparatus). This backpack system, with its over-the-shoulder design, adjusts the mix of gas and oxygen depending on how deep the diver is. This keeps the oxygen level constant during the dive. The innovation behind this system has even earned a patent, showcasing SEA Engineering's leadership in subsea diving technology.

Thermal Manikin Design: Enhancing Testing Accuracy and Efficiency

At Sea Engineering, we specialize in cutting-edge solutions for subsea environments, including our advanced Thermal Manikin Design. This system is crucial for testing how well protective clothing keeps you warm in extreme conditions. Our Thermal Manikin Design is perfect for evaluating survival suits used in ocean emergencies, as well as other gear like snowmobile suits and sleeping bags.

The thermal manikin is made of 15 aluminum parts, each fitted with sensors and heaters to replicate real-world conditions. It can move to different positions and is fully sealed to be immersed in water, such as in a wave pool. During testing, we dress the manikin in the garment and immerse it while using heaters to maintain a constant temperature. We measure how much power is needed to keep the manikin warm, which helps us understand how well the garment insulates against the cold.

This effective testing ensures that your gear performs reliably in harsh environments. At Sea Engineering, our Thermal Manikin Design is all about making sure your equipment is ready for any challenge.

Water Purification System Design

At SEA Engineering, we prioritize Water Purification System Design to ensure access to clean water, vital for both human health and environmental well-being. We employ advanced techniques such as electro-deionization alongside simpler methods like controlling moisture saturation.

One innovative approach involves using heated air to extract moisture from the atmosphere and convert it into drinking water. By heating the air and then cooling it on a specialized surface, we efficiently collect clean, potable water.

We use calculations, 3D modeling, and testing to ensure our systems work effectively. Our goal is to provide clean water now and support sustainable solutions for the future, helping both communities and the environment.

Conclusion

SEA Engineering is skilled at solving engineering problems with smart solutions. We design underwater equipment, and breathing apparatus, test clothing with thermal manikins, and provide clean water.
